Hand harvested. Estate produced. Old World Mediterranean reds.
After 30 years of making wine for himself, family and friends, a garagiste winemaker Neven Vuina decided to expand his wine production to a tiny 2.500 cases per year. Vuina Winery is a family-run winery from Kaštel Štafilić, relying on the extraordinary family tradition of winemaking. Neven Vuina is absolutely passionate about producing wines from the autochthonous grape varieties of Dalmatia.
He is a smart self-taught winemaker, whose winery is attached to his house. His home and the winery are a stone’s throw away from the Adriatic Sea, and the vineyards are also pretty close, situated on the western part of Kaštela – Trogir and are in the hands of the winemaker’s family from the time immemorial. The grapes are harvested by hand, and this producer insists on wild yeast fermentation. His wines are not filtered or fined.
Production technology is based on a tradition that is closely linked to modern and new developments in viticulture and winemaking. From vineyards to presenting the final product, all the work is done independently, so in the vineyard special attention is paid to each vine, the wine in each barrel or tank is treated with utmost care, with the final goal to produce top quality and exciting wines with a personal touch.
Plavac Mali is the most important autochthonous variety of Croatia, and it is the essential indigenous variety of Dalmatia. Plavac is a crossing of Crljenak Kaštelanski a.k.a. Zinfandel or Primitivo and a pretty rare Dalmatian red variety called Dobričić. The unique feature of Plavac Mali wines is a powerful and rich bouquet and loads of tannins with great structure.
Discover the Old World charm and a raw power of the hot Mediterranean terroir by tasting these great reds from the Vuina winery.
