Chateau le Castellas is a 200 year old family winery located 17 miles from Cahors owned by the Roucanieres for over 200 years, as evidenced by the remains of the medieval castle. The Roucanieres family, owner of Château Castellas, wine of St. Vincent (patron saint of winegrowers) is located on the Cournou Causse in the commune of St Vincent rive d’Olt, some 17 km from Cahors.
The domaine harvests 30 hectares of vineyards on a rocky plateau of clay and limestone. The Roucanieres family is committed to natural farming without the use of pesticides or chemicals, in the same way their family has done last 200 years.
The cultivated grape varieties are mainly Malbec and Merlot, which give their wines all the qualities to make great fine and robust Cahors wines. An ideal oceanic climate, but subject to Mediterranean influences, then favored in the fall by a headwind that blows hot, dry air from the south accompany the berries until they are fully ripe.
Their great Cahors wines are the result of the know-how of the family winemakers, who always respected the same motto, transmitted over time – ‘to strive to produce a great quality Cahors wine while respecting nature’.
